Conner
Meet Conner, another one time 'lost soul' who was living a life of neglect on the end of a chain. At least that was until he wound up in the rural Georgia shelter. Once we heard of his condition we simply had to react, his gentle nature was a real indicator of just how loving this boy is - especially considering the painful condition he was in.
Conner's dew claws (graphic pictures here) were allowed to grow right back into his pad, causing a bad and painful infection - yet he never flinched when they were cut and the wound cleaned up. Maybe he knew this was the turning point - that life he knew on that chain was over - He is destined for better.
We have pulled several dogs in the past few days / weeks and Conner is just one example of the conditions we see. If you can help us help them, a donation of any size is welcomed and will help get Conner and the others on the trail to a new loving home. If you would like to help, simply make a donation using this chipin widget, any of the paypal donation buttons on the site, or contact us directly to discuss other ways to help.

Conner had not eaten and was coughing, very sad and depressed. We rushed him to the vet. Conner has fluid in his lungs. He has kennel cough, terrible ear infection, parasites, and his teeth are hurting him. He has a long way to go and we really need help with his expenses. He has a foster home in NC. He is too sick to be moved for now but she will be there for him once his is better. His foster mom has several seniors and these expenses will be too great for her to manage.

Conner began to eat Friday night! We so hope he knows he is loved and cared for and will begin to recover now.
Three Old Souls

The story of these three goes back a few months. They were all three picked up as strays and placed in a rural Georgia shelter. As typical with most older strays, they were in deplorable condition. They all had issues - mange, under weight, parasites, tumors, old injuries - eyes, ears, and even open sores all had to be dealt with. Sadly they were very uncertain of just what a bunch of 'humans' were up to.
Evidently they had been living, no not living - more like surviving, on their own for quite some time. Then once they got 'picked up' and 'thrown in jail' their lives were destined to change forever. Thankfully, this time, it would be for the better.
They had a long road to travel, multiple trips to the vets for various conditions and most importantly learning that humans aren't such a bad creature to associate with.
Finn quickly learned that living 'indoors' was the life for him and we really think it was his attitude that helped the other two adapt. Granted Marshal and Rusty weren't as eager and it took several attempts before we gained their trust.
Now these three are doing so much better, they have adapted very well, their medical conditions are much better, the old injuries are healed. Our next step is for the three of them to be neutered, and then hopefully they will find that one thing they deserve,
a real honest to goodness home - one where they can live the remainder of their lives living as the fantastic indoor companions that they are.
Update March, 2010
Sadly, Finn passed away before he was able to find that forever home we've been telling him about. Although he did learn that humans aren't all bad and helped convince both Rusty and Marshal of that fact.
Finn was a very special friend, and he will be sorely missed. We are grateful for the time he spent with us and thankful for his part in proving the old adage 'You can't teach an old dog a new trick' to be ever so false. Finn proved to all of us, including a couple of 'old dogs' that the world is full of possibilities, a full belly, and a warm bed.
In Finn's honor, let's get these other two fixed up so they can spend the remainder of their lives the way Finn intended.
